Following an extensive grassroots nomination process, Diosdado Cabello, general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), presented the preliminary list of mayoral and municipal council candidates from the Simón Bolívar Great Patriotic Pole (GPPSB) for the upcoming July 27 elections.
During a press conference Saturday, June 14, Cabello revealed 86 mayoral candidates. He announced that the remaining candidates would be disclosed in coming hours when the complete list is published on the PSUV website.
“We held an open consultation last Saturday, June 7, in 47,000 communities nationwide, only possible because we have a political structure. We received 155,000 nominations, including 122,000 for council members and 32,000 for mayors,” Cabello explained about the internal process.
He added they established parameters “complying with the PSUV Congress guidelines, which set an extraordinary example for governor and National Assembly deputy elections, as the numbers demonstrate.”
