Caracas (OrinocoTribune.com)—The vice president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, arrived in Beijing on a working visit aimed at strengthening the cooperative alliance between Venezuela and China. This visit takes place just days before the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum scheduled for May 13 and after a new round of US aggression against the oil exports of Venezuela. whose primary market is China.
This Wednesday, April 23, at Beijing Capital International Airport, a Chinese delegation led by Tang Lingyun, deputy director general of the Department of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Remigio Ceballos, Venezuelan ambassador to China, received Rodríguez.
The CELAC-China Forum is a diplomatic mechanism created in 2014 to promote development and cooperation in various areas between China, on the one hand, and the Latin American and Caribbean region. In 2025, it takes on a new dimension in the face of global uncertainty over the Trump administration’s tariff war.
Upon her arrival in Beijing, Rodríguez highlighted the importance of this visit: “We have arrived in Beijing for a working visit within the framework of the all-weather strategic partnership signed in September 2023 by Presidents Nicolás Maduro Moros and Xi Jinping.”
President Maduro instructed the delegation to present concrete proposals that address the new global challenges. Rodríguez emphasized that the primary objective is for complementarity to guide international relations between the two countries, with a view to building a common destiny of peace and cooperation.
Preparations in Caracas
Also on Wednesday, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil held a “highly productive” meeting with the Chinese ambassador to Venezuela, Lan Hu, with the aim of strengthening the strategic partnership and addressing important points for the China-CELAC Forum agenda.
On social media, Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Yván Gil emphasized that this strategic partnership between the two countries translates into socio-economic projects for the benefit of the people.
To date, the forum has held three ministerial meetings: in January 2015 in Beijing; in January 2021 in Santiago, Chile; and in December 2021 in Mexico. However, the upcoming summit has greater significance, taking into consideration that many countries are looking closely to China as a more reliable trade and economic partner after controversial decisions by the White House in recent months.
