“A total of 381 releases were requested and agreed to on January 16 and January 24, 2025, which added to those previously processed and reported in previous press releases, give a total of 1,896 releases granted to date, within the framework of respect and unrestricted observance of the principles and guarantees enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic,” reads the text released by the Public Ministry on social media.
The violent actions promoted by the extreme right during the 72 hours following the election of July 28 left 28 people dead, 195 injured, including children and adolescents, and considerable material damage.
On Monday, November 11, the head of state, Nicolás Maduro, asked the judges to rectify and review whether there were cases in which there was some type of procedural error. During his program Con Maduro+, he denounced that there is a campaign to whitewash “the murderer, the criminal (Maria Corina) Machado, who is a criminal, who is conspiring.”
The releases began in November and by December 30, 2024, 1,369 detainees had been released.
So far in January 2025, the MP has issued 527 of these release measures: 146 on January 6th, and 381 between January 16 to January 24.
