Caracas (OrinocoTribune.com)—Venezuela’s National Electric Corporation (CORPOELEC) has reported a criminal attack on the National Electric System (SEN) in an incident affecting two transmission lines in eastern Venezuela, which interrupted services until power was restored in what the agency called record time.
Residents in several areas of Caracas and major regions of the country reported a severe power outage at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10. The incident lasted less than two seconds in some outer parts of the capital.
Such incidents have increased in recent weeks, with at least one occurring weekly in the Caracas area. This coincides with the presence of eight US imperial warships stationed near Venezuelan waters. The more intense weeks of Venezuela’s rainy season also coincide with the rise in these brief electricity incidents.
In its statement, CORPOELEC explained that this new “terrorist maneuver” comes as the national government faces a battle for defense and independence, which it says is threatened by the US colonial regime. These types of incidents had not been reported in recent months, which authorities attribute to intense work to improve the electricity service despite the US empire’s blockade.
CORPOELEC announced that state security agencies are investigating the incident and will impose sanctions on the responsible actors. It called on the Venezuelan people to remain vigilant and united.
Venezuela Reports Attack on 4 Electricity Transmission Towers in Carabobo
Below, you can read the full unofficial translation of the statement:
The National Electric Corporation (CORPOELEC) strongly condemns the criminal attack perpetrated this Wednesday against the National Electric System (SEN), specifically on two 230 kV transmission lines located in the east of the country.
Thanks to the responsiveness of our workers, the power supply, which was affected by this latest terrorist attack intended to threaten national peace and stability, was restored in record time.
This latest sabotage comes just as the National Government, led by President Nicolás Maduro, faces a new battle to defend its sovereignty and independence, threatened by the systematic aggression of the United States government.
In response to this attack against an essential public service, state security agencies have launched exhaustive investigations to identify, locate, and capture the masterminds and perpetrators of this attack.
In this regard, we urge the Venezuelan people to remain vigilant and united in the face of the destabilizing actions of factors linked to the far-right.
CORPOELEC will continue to deploy all its technical and human resources to overcome the effects of this aggression and guarantee the sacred right of our people to reliable and continuous electrical service.
