Venezuelan President NicolĂĄs Maduro has stated that it is no surprise that the government of the US empire has ordered the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to intervene in Venezuela; what is surprising is that it has done so publicly for the first time.
“The US government decided to send the CIA to Venezuela,” the president said this Thursday, October 16, “against the peace of Venezuela. They’ve always done so, but no previous US government has ever publicly stated that they sent the CIA to kill, overthrow, and destroy countries,” he explained, at an event with workers and families belonging to the national school feeding program.
President Maduro recounted the coups sponsored by the US empire and the CIA in Latin American countries such as Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Chile, and Nicaragua, to name a few. He noted that declassified documents from the intelligence agency itself can prove this.

“Over time, the CIA apologized for the coups d’Ă©tat, saying they only did it because those presidents were communists, but as time went on, we realized even that was a lie,” the president said. “What do you call that? Immorality.”
The president called for a fight against “this crude and gross interventionist policy of regime change” that the US colony is pursuing against Venezuela, adding that “no one can believe that the CIA hasn’t been operating in Venezuela for 26 years, against Commander Hugo ChĂĄvez and me.”
He recalled that earlier this year, the government exchanged Venezuelans kidnapped in the US empire for “convicted and confessed US terrorists,” demonstrating that the entity continues to work to overthrow the Venezuelan sovereign government.
“The idea is to divide, intimidate, and demoralize the people,” President Maduro explained. “They want to harm Venezuela, but the people don’t give a damn. The people are willing to continue defending their homeland, to continue defending the truth of Venezuela.”
MĂ©xico rejects US empire’s impudence
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has also defended the “self-determination of peoples” and rejected any interference or intervention in a sovereign nation, as she outlined her stance on the involvement of the CIA in Venezuela this Thursday.
The Mexican president’s reaction comes after the president of the US empire, Donald Trump, acknowledged on Wednesday that he authorized the CIA to conduct lethal operations in Venezuela and is considering ground attacks against the country.
“[Yes to] the self-determination of the people, and no to intervention and invasion,” Sheinbaum stated, responding to a question on the topic during her regular morning press conference at the National Palace in MĂ©xico City.
More reactions
Since last August, the US empire has deployed warships and aircraft to the Caribbean Sea off Venezuelan waters, raising the flag of the “war on drugs.” Foreign Minister YvĂĄn Gil categorically condemned the statements of President Trump, describing his announcement as an “unprecedented statement” that threatens Venezuela’s peace and stability.
The complaint adds to a wave of diplomatic reactions to what Caracas considers an escalation of war by Washington. The secretary general of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, did the same, condemning the CIA’s role in instigating coups d’Ă©tat on the continent.
During his weekly program, Con el Mazo Dando, Cabello emphasized that “there is no people in our Americas that hasn’t suffered a coup d’Ă©tat facilitated by the CIA. There is no people in this America or assassinations of leaders of those peoples that hasn’t been facilitated by the CIA. Just ask the United States itself.”
