Venezuela’s Minister of Defense Vladimir Padrino LĂłpez reported that “all the weapons and grenades seized in recent operations carried out by the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) came from the United States.”
He questioned the role of the US in terrorist plots in Venezuela. “What is going on in the US?” he asked. “One of its biggest businesses, apart from drug trafficking, is precisely arms trafficking. Why does that weaponry end up in other regions, not to mention other continents? Where do they come from? Who manufactures them? What interests are there in illegal arms trafficking? Who is interested in that? To arm whom—terrorists, drug-trafficking gangs—to destabilize governments? It is an issue that needs to be looked into.”

General Padrino also highlighted that the FANB’s Directorate of Weapons and Explosives receives daily reports on seized material, and added that “95% of the weaponry is of US origin, as is the ammunition.”
“The illegal arms trafficking and all the actions to bring it into Venezuelan territory has a predetermined purpose: to cause destabilization, terrorism, assassinations, and unrest among the Venezuelan people,” he said.
