On Tuesday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the United Nations must take action regarding US military actions against Venezuela, after being asked about the possibility of regional support for the South American country.
“As we have said, the United Nations must play a more prominent role in such cases,” the Mexican president emphasized during her morning press conference.
The head of state also condemned US interference after being asked about US pressure being exerted against the Venezuelan government. “There’s already too much speculation. What we have to say is that we do not agree with interventions, especially military ones. That is our country’s Constitution, and that is what we will continue to defend,” the Mexican president said.

Independent UN experts recently condemned the partial maritime blockade imposed by the United States against Venezuela, warning that it is a serious violation of international law, the UN Charter, and human rights.
In an official statement, experts warned that Washington’s decision to block all oil tankers entering or leaving Venezuela, along with its deployment of significant military forces in the Caribbean, constitutes a prohibited use of armed force against a sovereign state.
The statement also says the blockade comes after the unilateral designation by the United States in Nov. 2025 of Venezuelan government officials, including President Nicolás Maduro, as part of an alleged “foreign terrorist organization” called the “Cartel of the Suns”—an entity whose existence, according to experts, has not been proven.
The statement also includes accusations that US forces committed arbitrary killings of at least 107 people allegedly linked to maritime drug trafficking, in the context of some 30 attacks on civilian vessels since Sept. 2025.
