The executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), Rander Peña, condemned the “complicit silence” of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk and the UN Secretary General António Guterres regarding the abduction of 18 Venezuelan minors by US authorities.
The US government’s mass deportation policy has separated hundreds of Venezuelan families, violating basic human rights and putting minors at risk.
Peña said that Guterres’ attitude is not just a complicit silence regarding Türk’s omissions, but rather “public support for Volker Türk, for whatever he is doing… There is complacency regarding Türk’s silence, which has also turned the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights subservient to hegemonic interests.”
He also criticized UN High Commissioner Volker Türk for not issuing any statement, condemnation or appeal regarding the situation of Venezuelan migrants abducted by the US government and transferred to a concentration camp in El Salvador.

Peña added that it is the enemies of the Venezuelan government who have created the campaign of discrimination and stigmatization against Venezuelan migrants to harm Venezuela and to stigmatize the Venezuelan identity.
He further stated that the United States uses the abduction of Venezuelan minors as a bargaining chip for political ends.
