This Tuesday, five mayors of the state of Trujillo renounced their ties with the opposition to declare themselves in favor of the candidacy of President Nicolás Maduro.
The Trujillo mayors highlighted that their decision is due to the fact that the extreme right once again intends to attempt to destabilize the country and carry out acts of violence.
“This July 28, again, those irresponsible elites want to impose their agenda of destabilizatio,” wrote the mayors in a statement. “It is the same pattern that always ends up leaving more frustration and more tears for our people. Once again, they want to lead the country to violence, but Venezuela cannot stand any more fallen children, it cannot stand any more mothers crying in the streets or in the airports… This group of opposition mayors has decided to break with this disastrous and destructive way of doing politics; we have decided to break with those sectarian and imposed lines. We have decided to break with those who have made a business of the Venezuelan crisis. We have decided to break with those who need to see innocent blood shed so that they can continue justifying monetary support and international lobbying.”
Through a video released on social media networks mayors Wilmer Delgado of the Montecarmelo municipality, Servando Godoy of the municipality of José Felipe Márquez Cañizales, Francisco Aguilar of Andrés Bello, Heriberto Materán Tapia from Motatán, and Dilcia Rojas from Campo Elías released a statement through which they advocated the use of peace as a mechanism to change the reality of the country and promote the quality of life of Venezuelans.
The full statement is reproduced below:
We,
Dilcia Rojas, Mayor of the Campo Elías Municipality; Wilmer Delgado, Mayor of the Monte Carmelo Municipality; Heriberto Materan Tapia, Mayor of the Motatán Municipality; Francisco Aguilar, Mayor of the Andrés Bello Municipality; and Cervando Godoy, Mayor of the José Felipe Márquez Cañizales Municipality:
With six days left to decide the destiny and future of Venezuela for the next six years, as acting mayors, we have meditated, reflected, understood, and come to the conclusion that the path for Venezuela is not violence, it is not hatred, nor the confrontation between Venezuelans.
We have had 25 uninterrupted years of political conflict, and the only palpable results are poverty, pain, division, and separation of the Venezuelan people. As an opposition, we have not had political maturity, and we have not lived up to the change demanded by our people. It is not a secret, we come from continuous failures feigning a non-existent unity due to the imposition of agendas and interests that obey the personal whims of the Caracas elites who kidnapped the opposition leadership in Venezuela.
Chavistas Warn About Escalation of Media Warfare Against Venezuela’s Elections (+Machado)
This July 28, again, those irresponsible elites want to impose their agenda of destabilization. It is the same pattern that always ends up leaving more frustration and more tears for our people. Once again, they want to lead the country to violence, but Venezuela cannot stand any more fallen children, it cannot stand any more mothers crying in the streets or in the airports, Venezuela cannot stand to continue seeing its children leave without a safe direction.
For these reasons, after long days of consultations between us, our families and our political teams, after long reflection and responding only to our conscience, we have made the decision to break with the Comando Con Venezuela and the policy of humiliation and imposition of María Corina Machado. We have decided to break with the fanaticism and opposition radicalism that has fueled hatred between Venezuelan brothers. This group of opposition mayors has decided to break with this disastrous and destructive way of doing politics; we have decided to break with those sectarian and imposed lines; We have decided to break with those who have made a business of the Venezuelan crisis; We have decided to break with those who need to see innocent blood shed so that they can continue justifying monetary support and international lobbying.
With total responsibility, today we assume the commitment to declare ourselves independent and support the candidacy of Nicolás Maduro Moros, so that then, starting from the peaceful victory of July 28, we can open a new stage of institutional renewal, political coexistence, national reconciliation and peace, all with the objective of promoting the necessary changes and transformations that provide answers to the major problems that affect the Venezuelan people.
It is from peace that we are going to change our reality, it is not about a river of blood or a mountain of dead. It is with dialogue, understanding, and coexistence that we are going to give Venezuelans back their quality of life and their desire to continue dreaming of a better future.
