The Iranian top diplomat, Javad Zarif arrived to La Paz after the high level official visit to Cuba and Venezuela where he met with Cuban president Miguel Diaz Canel and with Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro. Many analyst agree that around Zarif visit an agreement was reach to avoid the presence of Canel and Maduro to Bolivia as a  gesture to lower the right wing tension that still persist in Bolivia after Luis Arce’s landslide victory.

It should be remembered that the presidential election was held in Bolivia on October 18, a contest in which the candidate of the Movement for Socialism (MAS), Luis Arce , was the winner , with 55 percent of the votes. But in recent days many extreme right operators have promoted violent crashes against anything representing or supporting MAS or Evo Morales, claiming fraud as they did in 2019. On Thursday a dynamite cartridge was detonated in a MAS building in La Paz where Luis Arce was holding meetings.

Arce will assume the mandate after a year of dictatorship of Jeanine Áñez, who came to power after the right of that country, in complicity with the Organization of American States (OAS) and the US government, promoted a coup against then-President Evo Morales, who triumphed in last year’s presidential elections with more than 50 percent of the votes.

Argentinian president Alberto Fernandez arrived at dawn to La Paz and was recognized by the city of La Paz as honored guess. Fernandez firm stand defending democracy and the democratically elected second term of Evo Morales was key for the return of MAS to power.
