The executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), Jorge Arreaza, said the organization “has everything” to thrive in the tourism sector.
“We have the perfect geographical, historical, and ideological conditions to complement each other in all areas, especially tourism. Hopefully, in the future, we can consolidate a free transit zone between us, as brothers, to get to know each other, to market our products, to escape dependence on other countries that have made good use of our resources, as well as our needs, to benefit themselves comfortably,” said Arreaza on Sunday, December 1, during the closing of the 6th Meeting of Ministers and High Authorities of Tourism of ALBA-TCP held in Venezuela’s Táchira state. The meeting was held as part of the Venezuela International Tourism Fair (FITVEN).
Last Thursday, the 17th edition of the FITVEN was inaugurated in Táchira state, bringing together 40 countries, over 300 tour operators, 24 ambassadors, delegates from 47 countries, 3,000 national representatives, and 19 exhibitors. The fair was completed on Sunday, December 1.
The opening ceremony was led by Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez alongside Minister of Tourism Leticia Gómez, Governor of Táchira Freddy Bernal, President of the Marca País Institute and the Export Promotion Agency Daniella Cabello, and other officials.
The ALBA-TCP executive secretary also said that “all of these are sufficient reasons to say that our Alliance deserves and has the means to have its own International Tourism Fair: FITALBA, to show our potential to the entire world and our people’s spirit… We have everything in ALBA-TCP to thrive in the tourism field.”
Arreaza also said that ALBA-TCP is an alliance of countries based on the principles of solidarity, cooperation, and complementarity.
For her part, Minister Leticia Gómez reported that the fair was more than a meeting; it was an opportunity for exchange and a space to promote over 40 bilateral meetings to define future cooperation agreements.
Finally, Governor Freddy Bernal thanked President Nicolás Maduro for allowing Táchira to host this meeting to promote tourism.
