What is the distance that separates the Gaza Strip from Havana? How many clouds, how many waves, how much wind? Since October 7, Ana, a Cuban girl in a red scarf, simplifies that distance and sits next to the television to learn everything about Palestine.
The cameras transmit videos of children collected under the rubble of their homes. The figures indicate that thousands of kids, some younger than her, died in recent days due to the bombings of “Israel” against this land.
Ana does not live that reality. While she changes her school games to learn from other places, she observes through her heart and loves from a distance. She reads one newspaper after the other, one magazine after the other, until she discovers the colors of the Palestinian flag.
Sad news appears in these posts. They talk about dirty water, screams, battles and catastrophes. Meanwhile, this little Caribbean girl writes some words:
Carta a Palestina, palabras de una niña cubana
¿Cuál es la distancia que separa a la Franja de Gaza de La Habana? Desde el 7 de octubre, Ana, una niña cubana de 10 años simplifica esa lejanía, cambia sus juegos cotidianos por conocer de otros lares, observa a través del corazón… pic.twitter.com/01tP4EI3qt

Dear Palestinian children:
My name is Anita and I am a Cuban girl who supports you and sends you a hug full of love. It must be very sad to be injured in a hospital and that in addition to the hurting wounds, your heart also hurts for not having your family alive. All of you boys and girls of Palestine today suffer and are witnesses of something that no child should suffer.
In my country (Cuba) the most important thing is children and peace, which is why it hurts me a lot to see the photos and videos that demonstrate the reality you are experiencing. I tell you that in Cuba there are many young Palestinians who are training as doctors to return to you to cure you and love you, because we children always deserve a lot of love, not hate or bombs or war.
My mother told me that everywhere in the world there are good and bad people. “Israel” has good and bad people and the evil ones who hurt you do not know the power of love and unity. Many countries in the world support the freedom of the Palestinian people and I believe that united they can make this to stop because children like us do not deserve war no matter how badly we behave at school and at home.
As a Cuban pioneer, I support you and we will help you in everything we can.
I write this letter to you with my heart full of love and hope.
I wish I could hug you all.
Anita.
