The Venezuelan vice president, Delcy RodrĂguez, reported on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, a new case of Covid-19 coronavirus in the country, specifically in the Baruta municipality of Miranda state, bringing the total number of cases detected in the country to 166. She noted that the 32-year-old woman, who lives in the Santa Fe neighborhood, had a brother who lives with her, who had tested positive in a rapid test. She is asymptomatic. President Maduro made the decision to -from now on- hospitalize the cases that are being treated at home, since many of the new cases come from relatives of people who have tested positive.
Vice President RodrĂguez gave her report from the Miraflores Palace in Caracas, while President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, made contact from their home.
President Maduro pointed out: “I think we have managed to contain the pandemic. In the situation we are in, we can hospitalize all cases and isolate them. I insist: it is not the same to be at home with the possibility of infecting the husband, the wife, a brother, a sister, a son, than to be in a CDI (Center for Comprehensive Diagnosis), in a hospital or in a clinic, totally isolated and with medical attention 24 hours a day.”
“It is an order that I give,” said the Venezuelan Head of State. “We have to advance to hospitalization of 100 percent of the cases. We have 23,500 beds and we have only 166 cases. We have 65 already recovered and 40 in home isolation.” He indicated that the health centers have prepared all the conditions to care for these 40 people, “with their bed clean and tidy, with the doctor and everything they need 24 hours a day, until we cure them. That is better than being at home, with all the possibility of infecting your relatives. The President has asked the transfers to begin immediately and reach 100 percent hospitalization before midnight.
