The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has officially delivered the five millionth home within the framework of the Great Housing Mission Venezuela social program, doing so in the Che Guevara Urban Commune located in Cabudare, Palavecino municipality in Lara state, where 80 new multifamily homes have recently been established.
“In the name of Commander Hugo Chávez,” said the head of state this Thursday, June 6, “creator of the Great Venezuela Housing Mission, in the name of the glorious history that we have lived, of resistance, we deliver as a package, in ownership, the keys to apartment number five million, and we are going for three million more by 2030.”

The Venezuelan president entered the home of the beneficiary family and shared discussion with each of them, while giving a brief historical overview of what has been the hard struggle of this social program in his address to the press.
“Commander Chávez was the one who planted this tree,” he said, referring to the creation of the Great Housing Mission Venezuela, noting that the far-right opposition “tried to cut down that tree,” and that “when they [the far-right] established their so-called 2015 National Assembly, the first thing they wanted was to privatize the Great Housing Mission Venezuela, but they couldn’t, because the living-Venezuelans took to the streets and stopped them,” Maduro recalled.
He highlighted the fact that Venezuela builds low-cost quality housing and delivers its housing as a historical and inalienable right to the people of Venezuela, despite the fact that more than 930 coercive measures launched by the United States and its allies continue to weigh against the country.

The first lady of Venezuela, Cilia Flores, accompanied the president in the act of handing over homes, reflecting that the Great Housing Mission Venezuela has also sought to consolidate homes for family.
“More than just houses, they are homes for the family,” she said. “Indeed, they have tried to attack the Venezuelan family with sanctions, with blockade, with violence, but our united family and community, led by President Nicolás Maduro, has managed to deliver five million homes to our people.”
Ildemaro Villarroel, the minister for housing, also emphasized the progress of the self-construction housing program, which has accelerated the completion of many works that are already being delivered to their owners. He reported that currently, 75% of self-construction projects are carried out by the Popular Power.
