Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro held a series of meetings with various special envoys from foreign governments and with the secretary general of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) who attended the president’s swearing-in ceremony.
On Friday, January 10, following Maduro’s swearing-in as the constitutional president of Venezuela for the 2025-2031 term and a military ceremony in the Military Academy and a people’s meeting at Miraflores Palace, he received the vice president of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and chairperson of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, Wang Dongming, envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Wang was a standing committee member of the 10th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and a member of the 17th, 18th, and 19th Central Committees of the Communist Party. He joined President Xi in his 2015 visit to the United States and in 2020 was illegally santioned by the US government, pursuant Executive Order 13936.
President Maduro then held a meeting with OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al-Ghais and the Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum Mohamed Hamel, with the aim of strengthening relations in the areas of exports, production and agreements in the oil and gas sectors.

Thereafter, President Maduro met with the head of the Russian delegation and the chairman of the Duma (Russian parliament), Vyacheslav Volodin, and discussed with him the ties of friendship and cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of both nations.
The Venezuelan president also held a meeting with the president of the National Assembly of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, where they reviewed the status of bilateral relations, discussing tourism, transportation, energy, and agriculture.
He also received the former president of the Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, who was present at the January 10 inauguration ceremony.
