This Saturday, May 3, marked the fifth anniversary of Operation Gideon, the US-backed terrorist mercenary incursion in Venezuela aimed at assassinating President NicolĂĄs Maduro and top government and military officials. The invasion attempt failed in less that 48 hours thanks to Venezuela’s civil-military-police union.
On the fifth anniversary of this heroic act that safeguarded the nation, President Maduro emphasized the importance of the peopleâs unity in rejecting violence as a political expression.
âFive years ago, Operation Gideon, a plan conceived, prepared, and financed by the Colombian and US governments, attempted to use mercenaries to invade Venezuela through the coast,â the head of state wrote on social media.
âHowever, we were prepared, and we activated Operation Negro Primero, Crush the Enemy,” he added. “And that is how our FANB, the Bolivarian National Police, the Bolivarian Militia, and the ordinary people defeated the plot to kill, attack public institutions, and shed blood in Venezuela, all in order to justify a foreign military intervention.â
The failed Operation Gideon, supported by IvĂĄn Duqueâs government in Colombia, was repelled by the actions of the people and the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB), resulting in the capture and surrender of US, Colombian, and Venezuelan mercenaries.
Coup Plotter Jordan Goudreau: Leopoldo LĂłpez Was Involved in Operation Gideon Invasion Attempt
âIt was the Bolivarian fury of a people who know how to face every challenge! The enemies may continue to underestimate us; we will remain standing, victorious, and moving forward towards the great goals of the homeland,â the president declared.
Months after the failed invasion attempt, the head of Silvercorp, the mercenary firm in charge of the failed operation, Jordan Goudreau, confessed that he was hired by Venezuelan far-right politicians led by former deputy Juan GuaidĂł. After years of claiming he was Venezuela’s “interim president,” GuaidĂł fled Venezuela and now lives comfortably in Miami.
