The president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, considered it prudent to wait for the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, to express his position regarding Venezuela. After the Republican’s victory in the US presidential elections, Maduro commented that he knows of “many people trying to incite Trump into attacking us.”
In this context, President Maduro called for “calm and common sense, nerves of steel … and what I always say to the people of Venezuela: let us not expect anything from anyone except from ourselves.”
“Venezuela will be great thanks to our efforts. What President Trump does is up to him,” Maduro said on Friday, November 8, in statements to the media after the inauguration of the 2024 National Games.
Elections in Venezuela
The Venezuelan president highlighted the ongoing debate in the National Assembly to renew the country’s electoral laws that will be the basis for the legislative and regional elections in 2025.
“If you ask me what to do in 2025, I tell you that we better wait,” he said in response to questions from journalists, adding that it seems that the best proposal “is to conduct separate elections: first the election of mayors, then governors and then National Assembly, but that is my opinion. The truth is that in 2025 we will have elections.”
“The reforms will strengthen the institutional foundations so that the country can continue to advance in the electoral processes autonomously, without anyone poking their nose into Venezuela,” he added.
