Iris Varela, Venezuelan National Assembly deputy for the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), said that the assets of María Corina Machado and other people who are conspiring against Venezuela from abroad should be confiscated, as mandated by corresponding laws.
Varela made this statement was on Friday, November 8, on the television program A Pulso, broadcast by VTV.
“People who are conspiring against the country from abroad, shamelessly and openly, how can they still have property registered here?” the parliamentarian questioned. “No, we have to make ourselves be respected. For example, I cannot accept that María Corina Machado has a home here, houses or companies in her name. I cannot accept that, for example, Leopoldo López has his houses here, or Antonio Ledezma, or the traitor and corrupt Rafael Ramírez, or this lady who was the attorney general of the country, Luisa Ortega Díaz. All the assets of these people and of the military personnel who have participated in coups, who are now in the United States, in other countries, betraying our country—all their assets must be confiscated by the Venezuelan State.”
According to the PSUV deputy, although the confiscation of their assets will not fully compensate for the damage that they have caused, it will be an incentive for the people, since they will interpret it as “an act of justice.”
She also mentioned the mercenaries who have come to Venezuela and who have been involved with “the women of the gang leaders,” with whom they “claim to be in love,” in reference to the defense arguments by the foreign mercenaries who were captured while trying to carry out terrorist acts in Venezuela.
Nevertheless, she stressed that the leader of this whole “combo” is Machado. “The empire has paid a high price for her whims, or she has defrauded them, she claimed that they were going to do it and were going to collect their price,” Varela said.
She pointed out that throughout the conspiracy process, the promises made by the Venezuelan far right were based on overthrowing the government and then proceeding to install puppets that would serve foreign interests.
The parliamentarian added that it is necessary to apply for a red notice to the Interpol for María Corina Machado, Leopoldo López, and other people involved in coup plots.
The detainees confessed to their crimes
Referring to the detainees accused of being involved in crimes in the context of post-election violence, Deputy Varela said that there is sufficient evidence for the measure of deprivation of liberty applied to them.
“Everything is in accordance with the law, no one can claim their own stupidity in their defense, they are in flagrante delicto, they have confessed and now they are convicted,” she said. “They are so stupid, they were sure that the government was going to be overthrown, they have always bet on overthrowing the government, so they grabbed their cell phone and filmed themselves saying: we are going to burn the Chavistas.”
The Venezuelan parliamentarian referred to the two Chavista community leaders who were murdered just after the July 28 presidential elections, stating that these were hate crimes.
“What happened to our compatriot Cirila is horrendous,” Varela stated. “They started with stigmatizing the leaders of the CLAPS and the community, who are grassroots leaders of this revolution. That is what fascism does to spread terror and panic, to try to discourage people from showing support. The cruelty was brutal, I was told that the criminals drove a wooden stake into our compatriot’s chest.”
“That cannot be forgiven,” she added. “This is a crime; they have to pay.”

Those born in Venezuela cannot be deprived of their nationality
When asked about the proposal by some to strip Venezuelan nationality from those involved in the crime of treason, the parliamentarian said that this is not possible.
“Citizenship is a right that those who are born in Venezuela have, but a Venezuelan with dual citizenship is different,” she said. “The Constitution says so, in order to strip them of their citizenship the Constitution would have to be reformed … That has to go through a referendum process and then the people will decide.”
However, she noted that many of the conspirators have dual citizenship, and in that case the matter could be taken to a court for a decision.
“For example, Leopoldo López’s father, I don’t know if he was born here, but he is a member of the European Parliament, so these cases should be studied,” she continued. “A person who has betrayed the country, what we should do is disqualify him or her from holding political office for life, that is what we can do. A fascist should be disqualified for life. A person who dares to ask a foreign power to interfere in the country, with this intervention causing death, pain and destruction for the Venezuelan people, such a person should be disqualified for life.”
