The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, urged Venezuelans to stop using WhatsApp, referring to it as a tool used for espionage and war. The president called for the creation of an app that would guarantee efficient and safe communication.
“I eliminated WhatsApp from my life, said the president. “I do not like WhatsApp because WhatsApp is a spying tool. It knows everything about your life.”
“WhatsApp has been used to massacre the Palestinian people,” he added. “It is through WhatsApp that they [the Zionist entity] locate and launch missiles to kill people, to kill scientists in Iran who were only doing physics research. WhatsApp is a tool of imperialist aggression against sovereign peoples.”
In this regard, he emphasized that it is necessary to create a digital messaging platform that would completely break with the dependence on these imperialist systems. He applauded the decision of the government of the Russian Federation to work on its own digital platform.
Issues with Telegram
President Maduro also warned about the dangers of the Telegram app, pointing out that it could be giving in to pressures from the West, especially from the US government. “I use Telegram, but not for important things,” he remarked.
He also noted that currently Venezuela is working on a “secure” communication system that would not be used for spying and “even less for killing.”
