The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) Deputy Iris Varela warned that the Venezuelan far-right opposition belonging to the Unitary Platform (PUD), together with international news agencies, has a plan to announce alleged electoral results ahead of time on this Sunday, July 28. In Venezuela, the electoral law only allows the National Electoral Council (CNE) to announce electoral results. Only afterwards are media outlets permitted to disclose their estimates.
Varela said that the far-right will announce exit polls results during the electoral day, with voters still waiting in line. She added that in these announcements, they will claim that the opposition won and that this lie will then be spread by international agencies to create a narrative that they will attempt to impose as truth.
“What they want is to take those exit polls and, during the elections, start this little campaign in all the news agencies to say that the opposition won,” said Varela.
She added that international news agencies such as CNN in Spanish, Agence France Presse (AFP), EFE from Spain, and Associated Press (AP) from the United States are involved in this plan. The plan has been uncovered, said Varela, and “that is why the president said it, when he [recently] called those news agencies garbage.”
She said that these are news agencies run by the United States and its corporations so that they can later claim fraud “to justify and continue with the story of a transitional government.” Varela was referring to the failed parallel government of Juan Guaidó, which has never exerted leadership within Venezuela, but which allowed the US and the Unitary Platform to seize control of Venezuelan assets valued in the billions.

The Venezuelan National Assembly deputy also warned the political structures of the PSUV, social movements, and the alliance of political parties supporting President Maduro in the Great Patriotic Pole to be on alert for the far-right’s attempts to tarnish the electoral process this Sunday.
Disinformation operation in the making
Venezuelan deputy minister for anti-blockade policies, William Castillo, also warned on Sunday that the Venezuelan far-right is carrying out a “gigantic disinformation operation” for next July 28. In social media, Castillo explained that this operation will be carried out using “infomercenaries at the service of the gringos.”
Castillo invited all revolutionary forces to wage “a communication battle against the big media and social media platforms.” He named a series of media outlets likely to participate in the scheme, including far-right and anti-Chavista news outlets such as ArmandoInfo, Tal Cual, Efecto Cocuyo, El Pitazo, El Estimulo, and RRES.
