The first vice president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Deputy Pedro Infante, reported that legislators from more than 70 countries have confirmed their attendance at the World Anti-Fascist Parliamentary Forum to be held in Caracas during November 4-5.
On Thursday, October 31, during an interview on the program Al Aire, broadcast by the Venezuelan state TV channel Venezolana de Televisión, Infante explained that this forum derives from the World Congress against Fascism, Neofascism, and Similar Expressions that was held in Venezuela in September. The Anti-Fascist Parliamentary Forum will be be held at the Convention Center in Parque Bolívar de La Carlota, Caracas.
“More than 300 parliamentarians from around the world have already confirmed their attendance, from over 70 countries, coming from all continents and Latin America. This is very significant representation,” he commented.
He added that this parliamentary forum will be held in a context where governments, “especially those dominated by far-right parties, have been weaponized to attack revolutionary, progressive, leftist processes.”
Infante cited the European Parliament as an example, “where there are at least six monarchies, where there are those who still believe in kings, in blue blood, and they want to come and lecture us about democracies and electoral systems.”
He specified that the motto of the anti-fascist forum is “Humanity or Fascism,” emphasizing the importance of parliaments in defending humanity against fascism.
Topics and proposals
The topics to be discussed at the forum include parliamentary democracy for peace, the relationship between imperialism, fascism, and Zionism, and the blockades and coercive measures imposed on various countries, with more than 30 nations under blockade.
“We are proposing the creation of an anti-fascist parliamentary network as part of the antifascist international,” the parliamentarian explained. “We are proposing that it should have an organic structure by continent and that each country should have a kind of anti-fascist parliamentary bloc, it has to exist in every parliament on the planet.”
Infante added that the forum will result end with a final declaration with concrete proposals and ideas, along with an action plan. “This is the first meeting of the parliamentary network that we aspire to create,” he said.
Resurgence of fascism
The deputy commented that there has been a resurgence of fascism in the world. “We understand that there is a connecting line between imperialism, fascism, and Zionism, that connects. We are on the brink of a great global struggle for humanity,” he said.
He emphasized that the two main political parties of the United States, that is, the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, are inherently fascist.
