The US Trump administration deported another 17 migrants this Monday, accused, without evidence, of being alleged gang members to El Salvador. The US State Department reported that seven Venezuelans are among them and that it intends to attempt to link them to the now-defunct “Tren de Aragua” (Aragua Train), thus maintaining the US’s xenophobic narrative regarding Venezuela.
These seven Venezuelans join the list of migrants kidnapped in El Salvador and held at the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), the mega-prison built by President Nayib Bukele, where he intends to unjustly detain this group of Venezuelans. In exchange, the Trump administration has promised US $60 million to the El Salvadoran regime.
Venezuela’s Attorney General Demands Supreme Court of El Salvador Rule on Habeas Corpus
The following names were released:
Keivis Jesús Arrecherera Vásquez
Jorge Guerrero Quintero
Leandro Herado Zambrano
Brayant Silva Rauseo
Maiker Espinoza Escalona
Ricardo Jaramillo Labrador
Victor Ortega Burbano
The operation was carried out despite an ongoing legal battle in the United States over the transfer of migrants to CECOT in El Salvador. In early March, a court ordered a halt to deportations carried out under the Alien Enemies Act, a 1798 provision that had only been applied in times of war.
Venezuela’s government has also condemned these actions by the United States government, as they flagrantly violates international human rights law. Therefore, a habeas corpus petition was filed to demand the immediate release of the Venezuelans kidnapped in El Salvador.
