The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the United States Department of Treasury today sanctioned five representatives of the Venezuelan opposition, including the political leader from Accion Democratica, Bernabé Gutiérrez.
The measure includes Chaim Bucarán and Guillermo Luces, deputies to the National Assembly and directors of the Un Nuevo Tiempo and Voluntad Popular parties. Miguel Ponente, secretary general of Primero Justicia, and Williams José Benavides Rondón, appointed as head of Tupamaros, were also sanctioned.

“They have acted as part of a larger scheme to manipulate the parliamentary elections to be held in December 2020 by putting control of Venezuelan opposition parties in the hands of politicians affiliated with the (government) of Nicolás Maduro, undermining any credible opposition defiance to that (government), ”said Steven Mnuchin, Secretary of the Treasury.
“The United states seems to be cultivating too much affection for sanctions, they will end up sanctioning Guiado and with that the small group of Venezuelans that still do not hate the White House, will be completed,” said a political analyst consulted by Orinoco Tribune.
