The Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) remain on alert following a complaint by Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy RodrĂguez regarding a new plot by US imperialism, which allegedly seeks to stage a false flag operation targeting an ExxonMobil platform in undelimited waters claimed by both Venezuela and Guyana. Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino LĂłpez reiterated this stance in a statement released on Sunday, April 6.
In the statement, the senior military official emphasized that the alleged operation aims to “generate confusion and provoke an escalation of aggression against” Venezuela.
He further stressed the need to remind the international community that “this traditional modus operandi of false flag operations—often employed by imperial interventionists—involves deliberately and maliciously inciting conflicts to justify invading sovereign nations with overwhelming military and economic force. This tactic is now part of a discredited, worn-out script.”
However, he accused the Guyanese government of “continuing to flagrantly violate the 1966 Geneva Agreement by unilaterally asserting jurisdiction over a disputed area, while permitting foreign drilling vessels and tankers to conduct exploration and commercial activities in the zone.”
Amid the tensions, the statement reaffirmed that the FANB’s personnel “unconditionally support the Bolivarian Government’s firm policy to uphold and respect the public mandate expressed in the December 3, 2023, Consultative Referendum, which reaffirmed Venezuela’s historical rights over the Essequibo territory,” while also highlighting the monolithic spirit of national unity over the importance of exercising sovereignty over the disputed territory.

“Hence, we resolve to respond with decisive action and seamless coordination between military and police forces to counter any threat to our nation’s integrity and peace. With the strength and dignity of our heroic people, such threats have failed—and will always fail!” the statement concluded.
