The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced the start of the Bolivarian Shield 2025 Military Drill.
On Sunday, January 19, the Venezuelan president announced that the first Bolivarian Shield Military Drill of 2025 will be held on January 22-23.
“Popular, military and police exercise of the year—we are going to defend borders, coasts, cities, vital elements for the country,” President Maduro wrote on social media, posting an accompanying video.
In the video, where the president is seen supervising the preparations for the drill, he emphasized that the Bolivarian Shield 2025 Military Drill will be carried out in civic-military-police union to safeguard peace, national sovereignty, and real democracy.
“Let us go together in perfect popular, military, and police union to show that Venezuela has the power to live in peace, in the exercise of its full sovereignty and in democracy,” he said. “Everybody on alert! Bolivarian Shield 2025 Military Drill, Charge! To battle and victory! Our triumph is peace!”
On January 10, during the Annual Message to the Nation, President Nicolás Maduro announced the expansion of the 7 Great Simultaneous Transformations (7T). The third component of 7T focuses on defense, guaranteeing the security of the national territory, and peace in the country.
Venezuela’s far-right opposition has been threatening about unleashing chaos and violence in the country in a new desperate attempt to oust President Maduro. Former Colombian presidents, namely Álvaro Uribve and Iván Duque, have been publicly calling for foreign military intervention against Venezuela along with calls to mercenary bosses like Erik Prince to carry out a violent “regime change” in Venezuela.
