The president of Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso, has responded to comments made recently by one of the five board members of the CNE, Rector Juan Carlos Delpino, who is linked with the Venezuelan far-right opposition.
During an anniversary event of the Comptroller’s Office in Vargas state this Thursday, June 13, Amoroso was asked by a group of journalists about the statements made by the rector. He responded that all the rectors have full access to the activities carried out by the CNE.
He noted that the media has the ability counter any misinformation that a person seeking to destabilize the country tries to make.
“I know that you are the ones who have to respond to these comments, you journalists,” said the president of the electoral body. “You have accompanied me throughout the management of the National Electoral Council, and you clearly see who works and who doesn’t.”
Amoroso further reiterated that come July 28, there will be elections, “despite sanctions, despite the blockade, or despite anyone’s bad intentions,” so that the people can express their absolute will.

Elvis Amoroso made this response to some statements made by Rector Delpino this Tuesday, June 11, where Delpino said that the CNE has allegedly made decisions without calling for board sessions since March.
“Elvis Amoroso makes decisions without convening a session since March,” said Delpino in an interview to far-right outlet Efecto Cocuyo. “The CNE is a collegiate body and I have the right to vote, save my vote, and apply it with reason, and to assert the right of all candidates.”
In keeping with past methodology, the current board of the CNE, a body where decisions are made by a majority, is made of five board members, of which three rectors are close to Chavismo—one of them Amoroso—and two who are close to the far-right opposition.
United Socialist Party of Venezuela deputy, Diosdado Cabello, stated during his television program Con el Mazo Dando this Wednesday that Delpino’s comments are aligned with the strategy of the Venezuelan far-right of withholding recognition of the electoral results, which most analysts and current polls indicate is going to favor Chavismo.
The opposition is expected to claim fraud in order to keep receiving the financial resources it gets from the United States government, as well as to promote street violence, a strategy they have used on several occasions in recent years.

Final electoral registration
The CNE activated the final electoral registry for the presidential elections scheduled for July 28, in which interested parties can verify themselves through their national identification number.
Users will be able to verify their personal data through the CNE website and thus check their personal data, address, and the voting center where they will vote.
This definitive electoral registry is based on the results of the cutoff on April 16, when the special day for registration or updating data ended, just as the schedule had established.
Additionally, on this same website, Venezuelans will be able to check if they were chosen as voting poll members.
During the day of registration and updating of the Electoral Registry, 604,964 Venezuelans newly registered to participate on July 28, and at least 847,999 people changed their voting center.
