The Venezuelan government condemned “the new and useless sanctions imposed by the colonial government of Canada against Venezuelan officials,â attributing the measures to a âpitiful attempt to ingratiate itselfâ with Washington.
A statement released by the Foreign Ministry of Venezuela on Friday, March 21, specified that the Venezuelan government “does not recognize and will never recognize these absurd measures and reserves its right to take reciprocal measures.â
On Thursday, Canadian Foreign Minister MĂ©lanie Joly announced the application of unilateral coercive measures against eight Venezuelan military and police officers, including the director of the Scientific, Criminal and Forensic Investigations Corps (CICPC), Commissioner Douglas Rico, Carlos Enrique TerĂĄn Hurtado, Carlos Alberto CalderĂłn Chirinos, Florencio RamĂłn Escalona, Leonel Alberto GarcĂa Rivas, Ronny Fernando GonzĂĄlez Montesinos, Manuel Enrique Castillo Rengifo, and JosĂ© RamĂłn Figuera Valdez.
In response, the Venezuelan government called Canada “a colony with pretensions of an empireâ that âhas fallen into absolute ridicule by pursuing a hostile agenda against Venezuela.â

The statement also called the application of the new sanctions a âshameful act of submission.â
An unofficial translation of the statement is provided below:
Venezuela repudiates the ridiculous sanctions of the colonial government of Canada
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela repudiates with total contempt the new and useless sanctions imposed by the colonial government of Canada against Venezuelan officials, in a pitiful attempt to ingratiate itself with the designs emanating from its metropolis in Washington. In an act of shameful submission, Canadian authorities have decided to act as a mere executor of the aggressions designed in the US, confirming what is already evident: it has ceased to be a sovereign country to become the 51st state, without its own voice, and with its foreign policy dictated from the White House.
This colony, with pretensions of an empire, has fallen into absolute ridicule by pursuing a hostile agenda against Venezuela. Its lack of personality and political dignity has reduced it to a mere instrument of useless sanctions, aimed at pleasing the interests of others, irrespective of the contempt of the sovereign peoples of the world.
The Bolivarian Government does not recognize nor will it ever recognize these absurd measures and reserves the right to take reciprocal measures against the kneeling officials who have taken such measures. Venezuela remains firm, sovereign and determined to resist any aggression with the dignity that characterizes the Bolivarian people.
