Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez proposed implementing the digitization model used at the Dr. Gilberto Rodríguez Ochoa Latin American Children’s Cardiology Hospital across the rest of Venezuela’s public healthcare facilities, so the entire Venezuelan public health system would have interconnected medical records.
“The Cardiology Hospital has had digital medical records since 2011. They made the innovation, and we request that this model be applied to the rest of the hospitals in the country, so that the entire public health system is digitized, every citizen has a digitized medical record, and these records are interconnected throughout the public health system,” Rodríguez said.
A legacy of Chávez
On Thursday, August 22, during the ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the Children’s Cardiology Hospital, located in the La Vega parish of Caracas, Rodríguez emphasized that the facility represents the legacy of internationalist cooperation and solidarity promoted by President Hugo Chávez.
“Chávez envisioned it as a hospital for international solidarity, where children from other countries, who lacked opportunities, resources, or specialized care in their own countries, could come to Venezuela to receive the love of the Venezuelan people,” she said.

The acting president added that this hospital “was a mirror, and it continues to be one. For that, there was the effort, the commitment of a country that says, ‘I will not surrender to a blockade or sanctions.’”
The hospital has treated 15,400 children and has no waiting list
Isabel Iturria, the sectoral vice president for Science, Technology, Ecosocialism, and Health, reported that the hospital has treated more than 15,400 children since its foundation. Specialists at the hospital confirmed that the institution has no waiting list for catheterizations and corrective procedures and a survival rate exceeding 95%.
