Venezuela’s Minister for Foreign Relations Yván Gil condemned the recent attacks perpetrated against the consular offices of Venezuela in Spain, Germany, Colombia, and Costa Rica.
These attacks add to those carried out previously against the diplomatic facilities in Lisbon, Portugal.
This Sunday, January 12, the Venezuelan Consulate in Vigo, Spain, was attacked by fascist groups. Thus far, the Spanish government , which by law is mandated to guarantee the security of foreign missions, has not commented on the attack on the Venezuelan consulate.
The foreign minister, through a public statement, asked the authorities in these countries to expedite the relevant investigations to find those responsible and bring them to justice.
According to FM Gil, the acts of vandalism were carried out by “an extremist sector” and organized by “unhinged fascist groups.”
The foreign minister also called for respect for the integrity of diplomatic facilities abroad and for the safety of their workers to be guaranteed, as established by the Vienna Convention.
Foreign Minister Gil also noted that these right-wing sectors, by attacking diplomatic headquarters, have once again demonstrated their willingness to adopt violence in order to attempt to destabilize Venezuela and overthrow its democratically elected government.
