Venezuelan security agencies arrested Leonel Moreno, better known as LeĆto Oficial, age 27. Moreno is a social media influencer who had gained fame in the United States where he published several videos inciting home invasions and hatred against Venezuelans.
Moreno had entered the United States illegally in 2022, according to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He was deported to Venezuela last Friday, March 28, and he returned to Venezuela on a flight of the Venezuelan government’s Return to the Homeland Plan. “The other migrants wanted to eat him alive,” Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello commented at that time, alluding to the anger of the other repatriates on that flight.
After his arrival, Moreno was arrested and placed under the jurisdiction of the Attorney General’s Office. On Wednesday, April 2, Minister Cabello reported that LeĆto Oficial will be tried for hate crimes.
“He did a lot of damage to Venezuelans there in the United States … and all of that is part of a conspiracy,” commented Minister Cabello during the broadcast of his program Con el Mazo Dando on Wednesday night. “He now has to face a trial for hate crimes here in his country. Let him defend himself and explain.ā

Ćltimas Noticias consulted a magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) as to how Leito Oficial would be prosecuted, given that the alleged crimes he committed were perpetrated in the United States.
This magistrate explained, “We are dealing with a Venezuelan who committed crimes against Venezuelans on foreign soil, which gives grounds to try him here.”
Attorney General charges LeĆto Oficial with incitement of hatred
On Thursday afternoon, the attorney general of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, reported that Moreno was already charged by his office and arrested accordingly.
He detailed that the arrest was carried out through the 45th National Prosecutor’s Office against Common Crimes and the 79th National Prosecutor’s Office for the Integral Protection of the Family. Leonel Moreno has been charged with the crimes of promotion and incitement of hatred and profiting from child labor.
Attorney General Saab added that, on his social media, Moreno published criminal content inciting hatred against Venezuelans during his time in the US. Moreno had also included his daughter, a minor, in his social media posts, thus defiling his own family in order to profit illicitly.
