Venezuelan Minister for the Interior Diosdado Cabello reported the arrest of an agent of the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) in Venezuela. This individual was a member of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) but worked for the DEA. His objective was to execute a false flag operation in Venezuelan territory, seeking to create a serious incident and destabilization. Venezuelan authorities discovered the plot and thwarted it.
On Wednesday, May 28, during his TV program Con El Mazo Dando, Cabello explained the core of the plot: “He came here for a false flag operation. He had plotted to abduct an Air Force Major and to falsely link him to drug trafficking.”
The plan was to fabricate evidence with the intention of damaging the image of Venezuelan institutions and falsely implicating Venezuelan officers in serious crimes.
Cabello lamented that the detainee was an active officer of the Bolivarian National Police who betrayed his oath. This officer served as an infiltrated agent at the service of the DEA. This situation demonstrates the intense efforts carried out by hostile governments to infiltrate Venezuelan institutions and corrupt officials. The Venezuelan authorities are thoroughly investigating these connections.

Regarding the motivations behind this plot, Cabello state, “As we have dealt heavy blows to drug trafficking, they want to continue with the narrative of Venezuela and its alleged links to drug trafficking.” This statement underscores the official perspective, where Venezuela considers that its successes in the fight against drug trafficking make US agencies uncomfortable and, therefore, they resort to illegal tactics to try to maintain a negative narrative against the country.
The Venezuelan government repudiates these interventionist tactics, considering them a flagrant violation of its sovereignty and an attempt to undermine peace. The Venezuelan authorities reaffirm their commitment to defend territorial integrity and national security against any threat, and will not allow covert operations to prosper.
Similarly, Venezuela demonstrates with concrete actions its comprehensive fight against drug trafficking. State security agencies have seized significant quantities of drugs and dismantled numerous criminal networks. These efforts contrast sharply with the unfounded accusations and attempts to fabricate adverse scenarios by US-supported actors.
