This Thursday, Venezuela’s Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino LĂłpez referred to the disputed Essequibo region as “sacred” to Venezuela and reiterated that âwe are going to defend, to the nails, in any scenario, this historically Venezuelan territory.”
In a public statement, General Padrino laid emphasis on the officers who are part of the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) and who, according to his statement, are deeply concerned by the threats to Venezuelan territory and sovereignty led by the US and carried out by its regional proxy, Guyana.
He emphasized that Essequibo is a territory that has historically been Venezuelan. âWe are resorting to the law,” he wrote. “We are requesting true justice … so that this territory returns to what it should be, as it should be.”
On April 6, 2025, the Bolivarian National Armed Force issued a communiquĂŠ stating that the armed forces are deeply invested in safeguarding the integrity of the nation and its sovereignty and independence. The FANB also noted that it remains on high alert following revelations of a plot, led by the US, in which a âfalse-flagâ operation would be carried out to stage a false attack on the Exxon Mobil platform operating in disputed waters off the coast of Venezuela. The false-flag attack would be carried out in order to generate confusion and initiate an escalation of aggression against Venezuela.

The FANB reminded the international community, through this letter, that this traditional modus operandi of false positives, which is frequently carried out by the imperialists is creating situations of conflict to generate a pretense for invasion or military and economic actions against sovereign nations and is already part of a worn-out script that has lost credibility.
âHowever, it is necessary to emphasize that the government of Guyana continues to flagrantly violate the Geneva Agreement by unilaterally … maintaining drilling ships and foreign tankers that carry out exploitation and commercialization activities in the disputed area,â reads the statement issued by the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB).
