The head of state acknowledged the massive mobilization called “The Great March of the Flag and the Sword of BolĂvar” and celebrated the libertarian spirit of the Venezuelan people in the face of the aggression of the North American empire.
On Wednesday, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro Moros led the central event marking the bicentennial of the delivery of the Sword of Peru to the Liberator SimĂłn BolĂvar—a commemoration that honored South America’s history and its struggle for independence.
“Today, on its bicentennial, its freedom and peace are more relevant than ever. I receive it 200 years later, with its energy and its liberating force, emancipating peoples. That is the sword of victory for all of South America,” the president said.
The event took place in the Courtyard of Honor of the Military Academy of Venezuela, following a patriotic march from Zona Rental that brought together the General Staff, members of the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) and the Venezuelan people.
Two hundred years ago, SimĂłn BolĂvar received the Sword of Peru in recognition of his victories at the battles of JunĂn and Ayacucho—decisive in defeating Spanish imperialism. President Maduro emphasized that “it is the Bolivarian Revolution that has restored this sword to its former glory and power,” transforming it into a symbol of the path toward “future victories.”

“We are the children of the liberators of the sun, and we are the liberating people of the peoples of the sun of South America, the warriors of the sun,” President Maduro declared. “Victors of all eras and all battles, we carry their sword,” he added.
The event reaffirmed the commitment of the people and the FANB to the legacy of Commander Hugo Chávez and to defending national sovereignty against “the new imperial threats of the international far right.”
The president emphasized that “today the patriotic spirit of a counter-hegemonic movement is resurfacing,” promoting national unity.
He also stated that BolĂvar was resurrected “embodied by our commander Hugo Rafael Chávez FrĂas, for now and forever in our struggles,” and stressed, “We are obliged to rise to the occasion—to be giants as police forces, as a people, as a nation—and to demand more of ourselves and others.”
During his speech, Maduro called on those present to defend national sovereignty: “We must be able to defend every inch of this blessed land from any imperialist threat or aggression, wherever it may come from.”
“The homeland demands it—failure is forbidden,” he said. “The homeland will have our lives if necessary.”
Finally, accompanied by national authorities and thousands of mobilized citizens, the head of state led an oath: “To carry the legacy and memory of BolĂvar to its highest expression and to defend the country against any threat. I swear, by the historical memory of our ancestors, that victory will be ours.”
