* US Government adopts sanctions against Globovision and other businesses

January 9, 2019

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury Department included on Tuesday in its list a group of companies and Venezuelan businessmen. According to the Treasury Department, Venezuelan individuals and companies were involved in an “important corruption scheme” to “take advantage of” the currency exchange in Venezuela, which generated 2.4 billion dollars in illicit profits. • Claudia Patricia Díaz Guillén: technical sergeant of the Bolivarian Armed Force, who also graduated as a nurse. Former head of the National Treasury Office (ONT) and the secretariat of the Development Fund (Fonden) between 2011 and 2013. She currently resides in Spain and awaits a decision from that country to be extradited to Venezuela, where she could be tried for corruption to that it appears in the archives of the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, that would demonstrate the management of millionaire resources of her and her husband through opaque companies.
  • Adrián José Velásquez Figueroa: retired Venezuelan Army officer, husband of Díaz Guillén.
Leonardo González Dellan: president of the state-owned Banco Industrial de Venezuela between 2002 and 2004.
  • Raúl Gorrín Belisario: Owner of the Globovisión channel. Accused by the Federal Prosecutor of Florida in August 2018 for violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, for bribery and money laundering for a total of more than 1,000 million dollars.

  • Gustavo Adolfo Perdomo Rosales: brother-in-law and presumed partner of Gorrín, accused of being his front man by the Treasury Department.
  • Mayela Antonina Tarascio-Pérez: wife of Perdomo.
