A Month and a Half Ago the US Stole Ships from Liberia with 3 Million Barrels of Gasoline: President Maduro

October 1, 2020

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, during the delivery of the Anti-Blockade Law to the National Constituent Assembly (ANC), expressed that the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States against Venezuela is part of a doctrine of the North American nation, to generate a regime change in Venezuela to benefit its own interests.

The President said that “researchers calculate that the income not received by Venezuela due to the fall in oil production between 2015-2019, is above 65 billion dollars.”

“The last of these acts of economic filibusterism is the assault on ships and dispatches that bring to Venezuela products that will enable the refineries to be reactivated, produce gasoline and supply the domestic fuel market, as it happened a month and a half ago, when Liberian ships were captured by the United States, bringing three million barrels of gasoline to Venezuela,” explained the head of state for the first time after the incident, denied by Iranian authorities because the ships had no Iranian flags but at the end the US stole the gasoline much needed for millions of Venezuelans.

“They were captured, illegally expropriated, by the government of Donald Trump that sold off the merchandise in international auctions, when it had been paid by Venezuela with our dollars, dollar after dollar, the people’s gasoline,” denounced the Venezuelan president.

Nicolás Maduro also pointed out that “the de facto embargo on Venezuela’s crude sales to the world, the blatant pressure against companies from various countries to cease their operations in Venezuela, the blackmail on industry suppliers to deny spare parts and services, everything, absolutely everything, is written in the executive orders of the supremacist Donald Trump against the Venezuelan oil industry.”

“This mafia operation has been applauded by the vulture companies that hope to put their hands on CITGO and with all Venezuelan assets abroad and by the leadership of the extremist right, surrender and kneeling to the interests of imperial corruption,” warned the president.

Orinoco Tribune operates without any advertising. We are not funded by any governments, think tanks, or large institutions. Our operations are entirely funded by readers like you. Our most generous donors have been targeted by the US for supporting socialist causes or are financially struggling. As a result, their accounts have been frozen, cutting off a significant revenue stream and severely threatening the sustainability of Orinoco Tribune.

We urge our readers and supporters, especially those not currently doing so, to help us with small donation (such as US $5 or $10/month) via Patreon, via Paypal/Credit-Card/crypto or via paper checks. Readers and supporters like you will allow us to continue bringing you progressive and hard-hitting news from Latin America, the Global South, and the world.

Help us reach our goal of $650 in monthly Patreon donations. We are counting on you as our only source of financial support!
