Crowds gathered in Caracas to commemorate the failed coup of April 30, 2019.
United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) Secretary General Diosdado Cabello recalled the attempted coup d’Ă©tat of April 30, 2019, at a large gathering in Caracas yesterday. The attempted military uprising, with a plan to overthrow the government, was defeated by the union of the civilian, military, and police of Venezuela, who bravely stood up to defend democracy.
Cabello called for remembrance of this event and noted that the supporters of the perpetrators have scrubbed from the internet images of their own premature celebration, when they were hugging each other with joy in the false belief that the uprising had met with support from generals within the military.
“In front of us, a group of armed ‘sellouts’ (vendepatria) appeared, with equipment, rifles, and armed vehicles,” recalled Cabello. “It would have been very easy to send an airplane—extremely easy. That would have been done by any government in the world, any president in the exercise of the defense of the constitutionality of his country. They would send an airplane and bomb the site.”
He recalled that on April 30, the traitors claimed they had taken over La Carlota Air Base, and international spokespersons began to express their “full support for the ‘liberating’ forces of Venezuela who have restored democracy.”
“Which democracy?” Cabello asked. “The democracy of the elites, of the few, of those who destroyed the country for years and who are still trying to destroy it.”
He recalled that the coup plotters were even moved to tears by the reunion of fascists. “The right is stupid and inept,” said Cabello. “They didn’t know what to do; they headed toward Miraflores Palace; they had to turn back from the Lido Center because they were scared, because in addition to being inept, they are cowards.”
“This intersection was used for years to stage riots, to harm our people; now it’s being used to celebrate a great popular victory,” noted Cabello. “We will never again return this space to betrayal, to traitors, to terrorists, to those who do not want peace and tranquility.”
Finally, he stressed that “today, more than ever, we proclaim the citizen–military–police fusion as the impregnable fortress of the Bolivarian Revolution. Long live the homeland, long live BolĂvar and Chávez!” Cabello emphasized from La Carlota, six years after the failed coup attempt against President Nicolás Maduro.
