Communist Party calls on citizens to sign in solidarity with President Maduro as tensions rise in the Caribbean.
On Wednesday, Cuba’s Communist Party (PCC) began collecting signatures from citizens in support of Venezuela amid U.S. hostilities.
“Starting this Wednesday, Sept. 24, our signatures will add to our steadfast and unwavering solidarity with the legitimate president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, and with his brave people, subjected to one of the empire’s most infamous campaigns,” Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel posted on social media.
In a statement, the PCC said signature books would be made available in all workplaces, schools and communities in a process scheduled to conclude Sept. 30 with meetings or brief acts.
“The signature drive will also continue the support of mass and social organizations, and Cuban civil society in general, for the struggle being waged by the brotherly Venezuelan people against the empire’s growing hostilities, applying all the resources contemplated in unconventional warfare,” the PCC said.

The initiative was announced last week by PCC secretary Roberto Morales during a meeting with President Maduro on his visit to Caracas. The signatures will endorse a Cuban government declaration issued a week earlier, warning of a direct military aggression by the U.S. against Venezuela, an action that “would have incalculable consequences” for regional peace and stability.
In late August, Washington announced it would use all its power to stop the “flow of drugs into the country,” including deploying ships and troops to Caribbean waters near Venezuela. So far, the U.S. has confirmed the sinking of four vessels and the deaths of 17 people allegedly linked to drug trafficking.

Cuba considers those actions part of an escalation by Washington to justify military aggression against Venezuela in order to seize its oil and other natural resources.
