The emergency caused by Hurricane Beryl in Cumanacoa, Sucre state, eastern Venezuela, has become the new focus of the far-right opposition. However, their intention is not to help those affected by the floods but to create fake news in a desperate attempt to discredit President Nicolás Maduro’s government. The far-right Popular Will (VP) party seeks to promote the idea that the Venezuelan government does not care for the victims. This claim was debunked by the same inhabitants of Cumanacoa.
To spread the fake news about Cumanacoa, the opposition party uses the Union Radio Network journalist Ariana Agreda, the wife of the VP Coordinator of Sucre state.
According to Agreda’s reports, Montes municipality residents in Cumanacoa protested because of an alleged lack of government attention.
However, users on social media have condemned Agreda for using her influence to discredit the work of the Venezuelan government and the governor of Sucre state, Gilberto Pinto Blanco, despite it being evident that the Maduro administration has been addressing the emergency from the moment it occurred.
La periodista @ariana_agreda esposa del Coordinador de la secta @VoluntadPopular del estado Sucre, utiliza su trabajo para desprestigiar al Gobernador del estado Sucre y al gobierno nacional.

“These planned and staged protests are meant to destabilize [the government],” said one social media user. Meanwhile, on social media, there are multiple testimonies from Cumanacoa residents affected by the overflow of the Manzanares River, stating that they have received help from the national government.
Another user reported that he traveled to Sucre state and saw how the population is working alongside national authorities.
“Nothing to do with this lady’s farce, who is by no coincidence the wife of a leader of the fascist party Voluntad Popular [VP],” wrote Juan Kursk.

Since the emergency occurred, President Nicolás Maduro mandated that those affected by the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl be assisted and supported.
Minister of Transport Ramón Celestino Velázquez Araguayán reported that work has begun to repair the suspension bridge that collapsed in Cumanacoita, Sucre state. Electricity services were fully resumed in less than 36 hours.
