The Venezuelan far-right announced through social media the self-proclamation of its former presidential candidate, Edmundo GonzĂĄlez. This move was condemned by Venezuelan President NicolĂĄs Maduro. According to President Maduro, GonzĂĄlez is assuming the role of GuaidĂł version 2.0.
It is important to note that on August 2, Maduro said that âthe US government, together with Elon Musk and the fascist international including Milei, are at the forefront of a destabilization process and a coup d’Ă©tat against the Venezuelan people and democracy.â
Maduro labeled the group of governments comprised of Peru, Costa Rica, Panama, and Chile, led by Argentinian President Javier Milei, as the fascist international.

The statement released by GonzĂĄlez on Monday, August 5, was also signed by former deputy MarĂa Corina Machado, who hours earlier, issued statements threatening âterrible consequencesâ for the country if Maduro did not yield to opposition pressure.
For his part, Vice President of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) Diosdado Cabello reiterated this Monday that the Venezuelan government, with the Constitution and laws in hand, is obliged to close the path to fascism. âThreats will not stop us, they will sanction us. None of that, at this moment, will disturb our unwavering decision that there is justice in Venezuela,â he said.
