According to the most recent post-election survey by the Venezuelan polling firm Hinterlaces, 83% of those who participated in the survey consider the Venezuelan electoral system as “positive,” of whom 56% consider it as “very good” or “good,” and 79% expressed their disagreement with the idea that an international organization or the far-right coalition Unitary Platform should be the appropriate authority to announce the results of the July 28 presidential elections.
The survey was carried out during July 31 to August 9, and the results were published by the newspaper El Universal on Saturday, August 10. During the survey period, between 50% and 53% stated that they voted for President Nicolás Maduro, while his principal opponent, Unitary Platform’s Edmundo Gonzalez, was supported by 33-38%. Support for the other candidates remained at 4%, while 12% did not respond. In addition, 58-59% of those surveyed opined that President Maduro won the elections.
The survey result of percentage votes for President Maduro is very close to the actual percentage of votes received by the president in the July 28 elections, according to the results declared by the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela.
The survey revealed that 60% of Venezuelans trust the electoral results announced by the CNE. On the other hand, only 6% believe that “any result coming from the National Electoral Council or the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) will be a product of fraud.” Meanwhile, 4% stated that they do not care about the electoral result and want “Maduro out of power anyway.” Another 4% said that they prefer to wait for a response from the TSJ, while the remaining 26% of the respondents said that they want the CNE to publish the voting minutes.
The survey further revealed that an absolute majority of Venezuelans condemn violent demonstrations. During the first two days of the investigation, the condemnation was at 91%; one week later it is at 96%. Moreover, 7 out of 10 Venezuelans are of the opinion that those who promote violence should be prosecuted and punished.
Furthermore, 72% of those who participated in the nationwide survey believe that the electoral process should be closed and that all political sectors should begin a new stage of working together for the welfare of the country. According to the majority of Venezuelans, the priorities are family income, employment, productive economy, health, and education.
According to the survey, 78% opines that Venezuelans should be “united” and in “peace” irrespective of their political differences.
Similarly, 57% of those surveyed recognize President Maduro as the principal promoter dialogue among Venezuelans.
