Venezuelan far-right politician María Corina Machado began a new campaign this weekend to threaten the peace and tranquility of the Venezuelan people while she is living comfortably with her children in the United States.
“LET FEAR BE AFRAID OF US.” wrote Machado in a recent post on social media. “We are going TO THE END!”
In a video, Machado reiterated that she will “claim the electoral victory” of Edmundo González despite the fact that Venezuelans elected Nicolás Maduro with more than 52% of the votes in the July 28 presidential election.

However, these calls to violate the country’s sovereignty are nothing new. In recent months, Machado has encourage a movement to be built inside and outside Venezuela to disrupt the January 10 inauguration day of the new term of President Nicolás Maduro.
During a conference, Machado urged the supporters of her marginalized political sector to “put all their strength” into January 10.
On December 1, Machado invited people to join a rally, but it was not well attended despite strong support on social media. It is theorized that this apparent support may be largely due to bots and media linked to the Venezuelan far right.
Venezuelans are increasingly distancing themselves from this extremist sector which, in recent years, dedicated itself to calling for sanctions and blockades against the country and encouraged the violence left many dead and wounded in the wake of the July 2024 presidential elections.
