A group of heavily armed mercenaries who entered the country from Trinidad and Tobago have been apprehended in Venezuela.
This was reported by the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, in Cumaná, Sucre state, during the inauguration ceremony of the new governor, Jhoana Carrillo, on Tuesday, June 3.
He added that it was a group of mostly Colombian mercenaries carrying high-caliber weapons, and their aim was to carry out terrorist acts in Venezuela.
“Yesterday [June 2], we captured a group of terrorists, here in the east of the country, with a lot of weapons of war, entering from Trinidad and Tobago,” said the president. “Half of them were Colombians—Colombian hitmen who crossed the Caribbean Sea to enter [Venezuela].”
“What have the fascists done?” the president asked, referring to the destabilizing acts of the far right. “They have attacked the economy [and] plotted terrorist attacks, but we have neutralized such attacks by capturing the heads of the terrorist groups.”

President Maduro condemns Ukrainian terrorist attacks in Russia
President Maduro also condemned the terrorist attacks carried out by Ukrainian forces against railway facilities in the Russian provinces of Bryansk and Kursk. “From Venezuela, we repudiate the Nazi terrorist attack against the Russian people’s right to peace,” said the president, adding that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, “is seeking peace.”
“The more the Russian Army, the heir of the Red Army, advances against the Nazis in Ukraine, what does Ukraine do? Terrorism.” President Maduro said. “They are Nazis: they blow up bridges, blow up railroads, attack the civilian population.”
On the night of May 31, at 10:50 p.m. (local time), a bridge collapsed in the Russian province of Bryansk as a result of a blast. The debris fell on a passenger train, leaving seven people dead and more than a hundred injured. Within a few hours, in Kursk province, the locomotive of a freight train in transit fell from a damaged railway bridge onto a highway. The engineer of the locomotive and his two assistants were injured.
The attacks, which took place on the eve of the second round of Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul, were described by Moscow as “terrorist acts.”
“It is obvious that the terrorists, who were acting on the instructions of the Kiev regime, planned everything with the utmost precision so that hundreds of civilians would fall under their blows,” Russian Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said Tuesday.
Analysts have noted that battlefield defeats are driving the Ukrainian regime, totally run by external interests, to desperation.
