Growth of tourism sector
Minister Padrón state that Commander Hugo Chávez was the first president of Venezuela to create a ministry exclusively dedicated to tourism, as he was aware of the importance of this sector for the country.
“Before that, there was no Ministry of Tourism, tourism was not part of the country’s development plan,” the minister said during the interview. “Here there was an economy with an oil rentier vision, people were encouraged to travel abroad. Now tourism is being promoted in Venezuela.”
He added that President Nicolás Maduro has put forward a national strategy to promote “the concept of a society that considers tourism as one of its main elements of development, of inclusion, with a sustainable vision.”
“We have to work on it, we have to prepare ourselves, work as a team, include the communities, prepare the private sector,” the minister said.
