* More than 80 European Organizations Support Maduro’s New Term

January 5, 2019

The European Network of Solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution denounces the claim of the international right to ignore the will of the Venezuelan people’s vote on January 10, 2019, when takes an oath for a second term the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.

In a statement the alliance that groups more than 80 organizations of the old continent recalled that the Venezuelan president was re-elected on May 20 with 67.84% of the vote.

“They base their arguments on trying to delegitimize the National Constituent Assembly that was also elected by more than 8 million votes and was the one who called the presidential election process because the legal framework attributes of that power,” reads the letter. / CP

Here the full statement

We support the will of the Venezuelan people

The more than 80 organizations that make up the European Network of Solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution want to denounce to the peoples of the world the claim of the international right, in agreement with Venezuelan opponents and the well-known Grupo de Lima, to ignore the will of the people of Venezuelan expressed in the polls through a democratic and transparent electoral process endorsed by international organizations where 67.84% of the votes decided to renew the constitutional mandate of President Nicolás Maduro since January 2019. More than 6 million 248 thousand Venezuelans backed that option in front of other opposing adversaries such as Henry Falcón; Javier Bertucci and Reinaldo Quijada. They base their arguments on trying to delegitimize the National Constituent Assembly that was also elected by more than 8 million votes and was the one who called the presidential election process because the legal framework attributes of that power.

In 20 years, the Bolivarian Revolution has carried out 25 electoral processes demonstrating its democratic and participatory nature where the Venezuelan people have been able to express their will and exercise their sovereignty as such. So this is part of other maneuvers that they intend to take, as a measure of international pressure, in addition to the sanctions, of the economic, financial and commercial blockade, with the intention of continuing to drown and affect the Venezuelan people. We do not forget what they did in other progressive processes like in Honduras, Brazil and Argentina. We are alert and we reiterate the unconditional support in the defense of the Venezuelan people.

For all that, we join this complaint and invite you to support, this next January 10, 2019, from each of our countries, towns or corners, the Venezuelan popular vote and accompanying it in the swearing in of President Nicolás Maduro.
