The president of Venezuela, NicolĂĄs Maduro, has stated that 12 years after burying the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo ChĂĄvez, the Venezuelan people have remained firmly united to continue âthe march, with the conviction that we are on the right side of history.â
âWe transformed the terrible pain of those hours, days, and years, into love, strength, courage, and bravery,” the head of state wrote on social media this Wednesday, March 5, “and we united firmly to overcome, raise our heads towards the horizon, and continue the march, with the conviction that we are on the right side of history, building the Bolivarian project.”
He added that the Venezuelan government, under his leadership, continues to move forward with the Bolivarian project initiated by ChĂĄvez in order to improve the living conditions of the Venezuelan people.
âChĂĄvez was planted in [our collective] conscience…” added President Maduro. “We have not failed him, and we will never fail him. May his memory and his legacy live forever!â
At 4:25 p.m. on March 5, 2013, Commander Hugo ChĂĄvez FrĂas passed away from this earthly plane, following a battle with cancer. Hugo ChĂĄvez was president of Venezuela from 1999 to 2013, during which time he became one of the most important leaders in the world. He had a significant participation as the main promoter of peace and integration in the region, through the creation of multilateral organizations such as the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of America â Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), UNASUR, and the CELAC.

Cuba and Bolivia
The foreign minister of the Republic, YvĂĄn Gil, thanked the presidents of Cuba, Miguel DĂaz-Canel, and of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Luis Arce, who paid tribute to Commander Hugo ChĂĄvez on the twelfth anniversary of his passing.
“On behalf of President NicolĂĄs Maduro, we extend a warm greeting to the Cuban people and President Miguel DĂaz-Canel on the occasion of their emotional tribute to Commander Hugo ChĂĄvez,” Gil wrote on social media. “Together we remember his legacy of unity, inclusion, and his tireless struggle for a fairer and better world for all.”
â12 years after his painful departure, ChĂĄvez lives in the hearts of his people and of all those who believe that a better world is possible,” wrote Cuban President Miguel DĂaz-Canel wrote via social media.
“We thank Bolivia for remembering and honoring his memory,” Foreign Minister Gil wrote in another message, “as well as for its support for the process of change that ChĂĄvez so promoted. Together, we will continue his legacy in the search for a united and sovereign Latin America.”
Bolivian President Luis Arce said that ChĂĄvez âsupported the process of change that the people opened with their struggleâ in Bolivia. Arce also highlighted the ideals of Commander ChĂĄvez, highlighting that âduring his life, he fought tirelessly to build a more just and equal Venezuela. He embraced the socialist ideal and revitalized it in line with the 21st century.â
