Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro declared Mayaury Silva and Cirila Gil, two women grassroots Chavista leaders who were viciously murdered by violent gangs under far-right control, as “Martyrs of the Bolivarian Revolution of the 21st Century.” The murders occurred in Turmero and El Callao during the terrorist actions following Venezuela’s July 28 presidential elections.
“I ask for the most sublime tributes for them as martyrs of this antifascist Revolution. This Revolution is humanist, Christian, socialist, Zamorana, also anti-imperialist and antifascist. I claim the antifascist character of the Bolivarian Revolution at the time when fascism is advancing in Europe, South America, the United States, and beyond,” President Maduro said during the weekly meeting of the national leadership of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and the political allies belonging to the Great Patriotic Pole (GPP).
President Maduro said that thanks to the rapid action of the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB), law enforcement agencies, and the organized communal power, it was possible to prevent these terrorist groups led by the former presidential candidate Edmundo González and María Corina Machado from causing hundreds more deaths in the country.
“They took advantage of the [presidential] electoral campaign to organize a fascist shock force to seize power in Venezuela,” he added, also acknowledging the military personnel who also lost their lives or were injured in these violent events.

President Maduro said that the recent events that occurred in Venezuela have left a great lesson for all of Venezuelan society, making it clear to the people what fascism is and how it acts.
“It is impossible to impose an exclusive and elitist project on the country out of hatred, pettiness, ego, and hidden interests. That is why fascism has failed in the Homeland of Bolívar. That is why fascism will never come to power in Venezuela. We will never allow it. We were born to defeat fascism and see the Homeland grow,” he added.
