On Wednesday, the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, led a day of activation of bank counters for the Petro. The activity was carried out at the headquarters of the Bank of Venezuela, located on the corner of Sociedad in the center of Caracas. “A few weeks ago, I authorized that savings in petros, of the more than 3 million Petro holders, be transformed into convertible petros,” said the president in a TV broadcast.
During the event, the head of state formalized the opening of 23 counters distributed by the Bank of Venezuela in the capitals of the states, which will be used to convert this cryptocurrency into fiat currencies.
Maduro stressed that “they can be used in stores in the country, in Petroshop (https://www.petroshopvenezuela.com) to acquire whatever people want,” he said.
Buying and selling real estate
He also issued instructions to notaries and registrars to carry out the procedures in these offices using Petros.
“All the offices of the Autonomous Service of Registries and Notaries (Saren) must update their system, in order to carry out sales and purchase procedures in Petros (…) You can sell your apartment, your house, your motorcycle and your car in Petros ( …) We must move forward, not only in pilot projects, no. All the offices of the Saren updated, selling and recording sales and purchases in Petros, ”he urged.
This request was also extended to the provision of other public administration services.
“It is also very important that all services, the Saime (Passport and ID Agency), all services abroad and in Venezuela, the apostille, must be done in petros, as well as the renewal of passports abroad, the granting of visas that have a cost, all the consular services in petros: Passports, visas, passport extensions of validity that occur in consulates, embassies,” he said.
He stressed that Venezuela is at the forefront in terms of virtual currencies. “We are the first country to have a cryptocurrency and I created it to protect the people,” he said.

Maduro explained that 8 million Venezuelans have savings in petros, of which 3 million kept their savings in this convertible crypto currency.
Debit/Credit Card Terminals
Likewise, the President delivered the first 200 debit/credit card terminals to various commercial premises for the promotion of PetroPago. The Sectorial Vice President of Economy, Tareck El Aissami, said that these 200 units are part of a group of 1,000 that will be awarded to representatives of several commercial chains.
Aissami explained that this digital sales instrument in Petros was developed by Venezuelan engineers.
The petro can be exchanged for other cryptocurrencies and dollars in the 24 bank counters of the country and for any type of currency in the world.
Family members abroad who send remittances can now do so through petros.
