President Nicolás Maduro denounced “a great manipulation” and foreign financing to “whitewash” María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia, to whom he attributes the violent events that occurred after the elections of July 28. In the opposition-led violence following the election, 28 Venezuelans perished, more were wounded, and significant material damages were recorded.
“Here, nobody forgets how they destroyed schools, high schools, universities, CDIs (health centers), outpatient clinics,” said the president, “how they burned more than 250 modules of the peace quadrants. Nobody forgets how they murdered at least 27 people.” The president made the comments during a broadcast of Con Maduro+.
“They hired young boys, gave them drugs so that they would shoot, stab, and kill people,” said President Maduro. He warned that the opposition is attempting to mount a media campaign during the Christmas season to try to convince Venezuelans that the captured criminals “are some boys that Maduro has imprisoned.”
In this regard, the head of state highlighted the performance of Attorney General Tarek William Saab because “he put everything in its place with evidence in hand.”
On the other hand, Maduro called on the Attorney General and all the judges of the country in the event that there is any case that needs to be rectified so that justice is carried out.
“I call on the attorney general, Dr. Tarek William Saab, and the judges of the country, as head of state,” said the president. “If there is any case that needs to be rectified and reviewed, let there also be justice… Justice is fair because it punishes those who need to be punished, establishes the truth in all cases, and forgives when there is a need to forgive—in cases where there has been some type of procedural error.”
