Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro called for an organizational congress of the governing United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and the SimĂłn BolĂvar Great Patriotic Pole (GPPSB) to decide on the method for the selection of candidates for the upcoming elections.
Maduro, who is also president of PSUV, highlighted the importance of a renewal of leadership in the elected posts and the battle of ideas.
“Are you going to support this idea? Do you want renewal? Do you want changes? Do you want to win again? We have the blessing of God, the Creator, to triumph in all the political and electoral battles to come,” he said on Thursday, January 23, during his speech at the official event commemorating the popular uprising of January 23, 1958.
The president made this statement after the National Electoral Council (CNE) confirmed there will soon be a call for elections for governorships, legislative councils, mayorships, and the National Assembly.

President Maduro stressed the importance of staying on the course and not deviating at any time, as a historic project and legacy is being defended.
“We have a national project, we have a historical legacy to defend, we have a plan, we have a team, we have the union, we have the people, we have the Homeland, and we have a president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela: the president people, the people president,” he stated.
He also highlighted the election record in Venezuela since the Bolivarian Revolution took place.
“To the 31 elections that we have held in 25 years, of which we have won 29, we have added three consultations,” he said. He added that at the end of this year, the total number of elections will reach 34 in a quarter of a century, a global record in participation and democratic freedoms.
