The Russian Foreign Ministry has announced that State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin will travel to Venezuela to represent his country at the inauguration ceremony of President Nicolás Maduro, scheduled for January 10.
“On behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia will be represented at the inauguration of Venezuelan President-elect Nicolás Maduro by State Duma Speaker Viacheslav Volodin,” the ministry reported this Thursday, January 26.
As established by the laws of the Constitution, on January 10, 2025, Nicolás Maduro will be sworn in on January 10 before the National Assembly (AN) for a new presidential term (2025-2031), following his victory in the elections on July 28.
Looking ahead to January 10, more and more countries are announcing that they will send a representative to Nicolás Maduro’s inauguration ceremony. However, so far, no head of state has publicly announced their participation in the constitutional ceremony.
It is worth remembering that in recent days, Colombia, México, and Belarus have announced the sending of middle-rank representation from their governments.
Colombia will be represented by the ambassador to Venezuela, Milton Rengifo. Meanwhile, the president of México, Claudia Sheinbaum, said that she will send a representative of her government, likely to be Ambassador Leopoldo de Gyves.
Belarus, meanwhile, announced that Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Mikhailovich Karankevich will travel to represent the administration of President Alexander Lukashenko.
Venezuela: Campaigns Begin for Elections of Communal Justices of the Peace
After the July 28 presidential elections, Venezuela’s far-right opposition had launched a campaign to delegitimize the Venezuelan electoral process, despite the process and its results being certified by the the National Electoral Council (CNE) and later ratified by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).
The traditional Washington-led smearing campaigns were seeking to delegitimize the election even before it happened, as is the pattern with the colonial “regime-change” strategy of the US empire and its allies. Additionally, in this election, countries led by liberal presidents close to the Maduro administration took it upon themselves to ally with the narrative of the White House in their questioning of the fact that the Venezuelan electoral authorities have not yet published the detailed electoral results, something that is being asked internally in Venezuela as well even while supporting the victory of Nicolás Maduro.
